Soquel, CA - 25 February 2002 – bandwidth aggregation specialist ePipe has released the latest revision of firmware for its 2200 and ePipe ServerWare VPN and security gateway products. The firmware release includes two client and two server Multilink IP (ML-IP) tunnels, at no extra cost. This allows enterprises to easily increase bandwidth, connection reliability and security at remote and branch sites. The new firmware also adds interoperability with a wide range of VPN solutions and an automatic failover facility.
The introduction of Internet Key Exchange (IKE) in firmware revision 2.3 makes ePipe ServerWare and 2000 series products fully interoperable with VPN products from other vendors, enabling customers to incorporate ePipe's products into existing VPNs. ePipe has successfully tested the 2000 series and ePipe ServerWare with several other leading VPN gateways and IPSec clients to ensure multi-vendor interoperability. Testing included Cisco PIX Firewalls and SonicWALL Internet Security Appliances, Check Point VPN-1, Linux (FreeS/WAN), OpenBSD security gateways and IPSec clients for Microsoft Windows
Firmware revision 2.3 for 2000 VPN gateways now supports VPN connections as standard. These include two client and two server ML-IP-capable IPSec tunnels for ePipe-only VPNs and one IKE IPSec tunnel for multi-vendor VPNs. In addition, two remote access Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) connections are included. Customers no longer need to purchase any feature key upgrades to create a VPN with the 2000 series.
This makes the 2200 an attractive and cost-effective networking solution for remote offices and mobile professionals. It provides a complete, ready-to-deploy solution for remote offices wanting a permanent or temporary secure connection to the head office.

In addition to interoperability and free, pre-installed VPN capabilities, firmware revision 2.3 also adds an automatic dial-up link failover facility to the 2242 and ePipe ServerWare. This allows both products to automatically failover from a primary broadband connection to multiple dial-up connections by switching from the model's Ethernet interface to one or more of the serial interfaces.
Furthermore, through deployment of 2242s at each end of the connection, ML-IP can be used to bond up to four of the dial-up connections, giving organisations a high availability, near-broadband connection at all times, even in the event of the network- wide failure of an xDSL service. ePipe ServerWare bonds up to eight dial-up connections and provides fallback to secondary broadband connections.
